Disney

Ever since Disney started making movies I have always been a big fan. My favorite Disney movie is Lion King. I just love the way Disney incorporates big life lessons in a children's movie. Also, I love the music that is in all the Disney movies. For our spring concert this year we sang songs from musicals/movies. Fortunately we were able to preform two Disney songs. I was very excited. We sang "Can you Feel the Love Tonight" and "You'll be in my Heart". These two are my favorite songs. I was ecstatic when we preformed them very well at our concert.

Mission Trips

Every year my church's youth group goes on a mission trip. We usually rebuild houses and buildings that have been destroyed in natural disasters. We have been on 9 different mission trips in the last 9 years. The one this year will be our tenth one. I have been on 6 of the last 9 and will be going on this next one. I am very excited. We are going to Choctaw, Mississippi and are working on the "Indian Reservation". I love going on the mission trips because I like helping others in need and I am able to draw closer to God. I don't know whether or not I make a big difference in the lives of the people I help, but they make a difference in mine. I can't wait for another opportunity like the previous ones.

Prom

A Night of Elegance is the theme for this year's prom. I am very excited about going, although I think they people coordinating the dance could have been a little more creative. The last 3 years the theme of prom has been really similar; Here's to the Night and Bella Noche(Beautiful Night). Even though the theme isn't very original it will still be fun. I'm ecstatic.

Childhood Birthdays

One birthday I remember really well. Was my 9th birthday. The week before my birthday all the Barbies went on sell. Everyone decided to give me a Barbie for my birthday. I ended up receiving 9 Barbies that day. It was crazy. Something else I remember about my birthday that year was my cake. My Grandma made my birthday cake. When she made it she took a Barbie and undressed it, then stuck it in the center of a dome cake. Then she decorated the cake and the Barbie like a dress. The cake was the poofy skirt of the dress and then she drew the bodice onto the doll. I was ecstatic when I saw it. it was amazing.

Birthdays

Everyone had a birthday. Some people don't celebrate it like others do. My family makes a big deal when it comes to birthdays. We always have lots of cake, presents, and of course the Happy Birthday song. For my birthday this year some of my friends and family and I went bowling. It was a lot of fun. I still lost, but I had fun. One tradition we always have is we sing the Happy Birthday song. I always like this song. I'm not sure why, I just do. I guess it just makes me feel special for a few minuets. I always love birthdays.

The Internet

I spend a lot of time online because I am always doing homework, that requires research. I also am on my email a lot because I am very busy with school and sports that I don't have a lot of time to talk to or call people so I keep in touch with a quick email. I am glad I have the Internet as a source of communication, without it I wouldn't be able to talk with most of my friends.

April Fools Day

April 1st is know as the day of pranks. One prank that I'll never forget took place on my church's mission trip last year. The girls had been joking around about playing a prank on the boys so the boys joked back that they were going to sleep naked so the girls wouldn't play a prank on them in the night. Well as the day went on the guys decided that it would be really funny to "sleep naked". They decided to pull their shorts up and cover up with a blanket, to make it look like they were naked, then they placed a pair of boxers beside them to make it really look like they were naked. Well, the girls found this out, when we went in to "play our prank" we took video cameras and recorded the boys, in order in get back at them. It was very interesting. Needless to say we didn't tell the others at the church, that way they would let us go on another mission trip.

Henderson Track Meet

This weekend was my first official tract meet for the season. It wasn't to bad. It was really windy so every one's time were slow. I ran the 4x800 relay. it was OK, but the hand-offs were awful. My hand-off to Kat was the worst of the three hand-offs. I start to hand the baton to Kat and the girls beside us(trying to get off the track) runs right into us. She almost knocked the baton out of our hands. Then she just stood there between us and wouldn't move. Kat and I had to stop and I had to hand her the baton, because we were at the end of the exchange zone. Later in the day I ran the 300 hurdles. It was fun. The first 100 was kind of hard because we had a 30 mph head wind. But other than the couple of bad things that happened during the races everything went pretty well.

Once Upon a Dream

Every year the Advance Chorus combines with the Special needs class to preform a musical. The special needs kids act out the parts and the chorus sings the songs. This year the play that we are preforming is called Once Upon a Dream. It is like the Disney movie Cinderella. The special needs kids have worked very hard on there parts and the chorus has worked very hard on the songs. I can't wait until we preform it tomorrow. It will be a lot of fun and very rewarding for all those who take place in it each year. I have participated in the last two years and they both have been very rewarding for me. This one I know will be just as rewarding.

What do you wish you could take the time to do?

If I wasn't busy with school and could do whatever I wanted, I would hang out with my friends. Right now I am always doing homework or running so I don't have very much time to hang out with my friends. I get to see them on the weekends, but that is about it. I would also, spend as much time outside as I could. I love being outside. There is just something about the bright sun, the fresh smell, and the grass between my toes that I just can't resist. When I was little I loved playing at the park and having picnics; with extra time I would be able to go to the park and have a picnic with my friends.

The first time I drove a car

The first time I drove a car was when I was 14 years old. I had no idea what I was doing, one day my youth pastor told me he was going to teach to drive a stick shift. The first 30 minutes were very jerky; literally. I was really bad at the clutch. I didn't know that I was supposed to use it every time I used the break. Also I didn't know you were supposed to shift up one gear at a time. I just wanted to put it in the gear I wanted it in. Needless to say, I stalled the truck several times before we actually moved. Another thing that I had trouble with was trying to shift gears in the middle of a turn. I stalled the car in the middle of several turns. I still haven't mastered that. The next time I went driving I did get across the parking lot before I stalled the car (I was trying to turn and shift gears at the same time; it didn't work). After all the driving lessons I still can't drive a stick shift, but I at least know how and I can if I really have to. I just hope the person whose car I'm driving won't hate me for messing up the gears.

Track and Field

If you watched the Summer Olympics in 2008 then you might have seen an event called the Steeplechase. This event is similar to hurdles, except you are jumping solid barriers and water holes. It may look crazy, but it is really fun. The only problem is that it takes special training. You have to be able to jump several barriers and still run 2 miles. Just recently the KHSAA board decided to add it as a high school event. Since my favorite part of cross country is jumping the trees and mud holes I decided that I was going to try the Steeplechase. Today I started training for it. I started with hurdle drills and then moved on to jumping the hurdles. It was a lot of fun but now I am very sore. I thought I did very well for my first day. I only ran into the hurdle once and I didn't fall down, I just kept running and cleared the next hurdle. I was very excited at the end of practice when all I had was one bruise on my knee (from running into the hurdle). I am very excited about running/jumping the Steeplechase. And another thing it is a new high school sport so the competition level of it should be low, meaning it should be easier to go to State in.

Who would I call first and why?

If I was stuck in a ditch the first person I would call would be my youth leader. I would call him first because he is a mechanic and he has access to the towing chain and then he would fix my car for me. Then I would call my mom, because she would be the one that would have to take me places while my car was being fixed and she is the one paying for my car so if I wanted it fixed I would have to tell her.

Beauty and the Beast

The Beauty and the Beast was one of my favorite Disney movies. Fortunately I was able to see the musical form of it on stage at the River Park Center the other night. It was very good. The cast did an amazing job. They had several special affect. One of my favorites was the wolf scene. They lowered a screen that made the stage look fuzzy and it had tree branches along the edges of it. Then they dimmed the lights, so it was dark, and turned on strobe lights. Then for the wolves they had grey costumes that looked like wolves, but instead of having people in the costumes as wolves they had people, dressed in black, moving the wolves. It made them look like they were actually leaping and attacking the Beast, Papa, and Belle. It was really cool. Another scene I liked was the town scene. The choreography was really good. I loved the dance. Also, the props/setting was done very well. The houses and stores were reversible. On one side was the out side of the house and on the other was the inside of the house. They were very pretty. I would definitely go back and watch it again, if I could.

Fashion Statements

The clothes that people wear everyday always start from a simple fashion statement. Someone one day decided they wanted to be different. Some ideas are very exotic. For example: platform shoes, glow in the dark pants, padded shoulder, and bell-bottoms. All of these fashion trends started with one person trying to be different. Sometimes I wish people wouldn't try to be different. It turns out very scary. Next time you try to be different make sure you check with your friends and make sure that what you are about to put on won't end up on What Not to Wear in a few years.

Why did the chicken cross the road?

Everyone has heard the joke "Why did the chicken cross the road?", but the answer is never the same. Here are the top 5 answers to the joke that I like.

1. To get to the other side.

2. I don't know.

3. When we were young we didn't ask why the chicken crossed the road. It just did.

4. Because it wanted to.

5. To go where no chicken had gone before.

Valentine's Day

In February every year there is one special holiday that everyone get all lovey-dovey over and everywhere you hear talk about flowers, pink and red, chocolate, and love. Can you guess what holiday I'm talking about now? That's right Valentine's Day. People get so crazy over this one little holiday. If only they would be that way at Christmas and Easter, over Jesus. People should be more in love with Jesus and God than with someone else because God will give you the ultimate love and intimacy that everyone craves; his love.

For God so loVed the world that he gAve his onLy son the whoEver believed iN him shall noT parIsh, but have aN evErlasting life. John 3:16

What are the best reasons for doing nothing?

Everyone has excuses for not doing something. Here are a few for not doing anything:
1. I'm tired.
2. I already did that (last week).
3. She's not doing it why do I have to do it?
4. This is what you do all the time.
5. I'm too lazy.

Monday, February 8, 2010

have you ever wondered how many different ways you can say a word? Well one word that I wonder about is the word "no". There are many different ways to say no. Here is the top 15 on my list, there are many more:

2. never
3. nothing
4. Nada
5. zip
6. Ni
7. I don't think so
8. negative
9. nay
10. nix
11. not by any means
12. absolutely not
13. not at all

Swimming Regionals

In every sport there is always a big game or meet you train for and compete in, for swimming it is regional. Regional was this weekend it was a lot of fun. I got to leave school early, swim against 59 other swimmers, and have fun with my friends. At regional we swam preliminaries on Friday and then if you had one of the top 12 times in your event you swam again on Saturday to see whether or not you qualify for the state swim meet. I just missed swimming in finals on Saturday, but I was an alternate for my team. Even though, I didn't qualify for finals I still had 3 of my best times in swimming. I had a 2:26 in my 200 yd freestyle swim (my fastest time by 3 seconds), a 6:36 in my 500 yd freestyle swim (my fastest time by 9 seconds), and a 1:06 in my leg of the 400 yd freestyle relay (I swam 100 yd- my fastest time by 2 seconds). It was a lot of fun on Saturday, because I was able to warm up with my teammates that had qualified for finals, but I was still able to cheer them on and take pictures of them. If you ever get a chance to compete at the region or state level take it. It is a lot of fun, a great way to meet new friends, and a great way to compare yourself to other around you.

What is silly?

Silly means happy or innocent.
There are many things that are silly. One thing that is silly is being at school today. The roads in the city are not safe to drive on let alone the roads in the county. Also, the school parking lot isn't even clear. I had to park over top of a snow pile. this morning, driving to school, I couldn't go over 10 mph because the roads was still icy and snow covered. Then i got to school and had to park on top of a snow pile because they hadn't plowed the parking lot. It was a very silly idea to have school since the roads and parking lots were a mess especially since we have been out of school for a lot less snow that melted by 9:00. It was a very silly idea to be in school today.

Winter

Winter is not my favorite season at all.
Wet and cold it is throughout the day, is not something I like to be.
Whether we are out of school or not, is just one of the questions that looms in the air.
Wild are the winds and snow, nothing is predictable.
White is the sky during the short day and dark is the afternoons.
We can't stay warm outside. We have to stay in all day.
We stay under a winter weather watch all winter long.
Will we go to school today?
We do not know until they call.
Winter is not my favorite season at all.

What advice would a dog give about life?

Advice is something that people tell others in order to help them out with a situation. You hear all different kinds of advice. sometimes it is about weight loss or sometimes it is about something more complicated like suicide. One day I was thinking about the best kind of advice and who it came from. Then I started thinking about what if a dog could give advice and what it might be. i decided that if dogs could give advice that it would be about "always being loyal". I thought of this because when you hear people talk about dogs you always hear that they are loyal. This is a good piece of advice because you should always be loyal to everything you do whether it is a sport, school, career, or a person.

Math

When I hear the word math I think of numbers, a subject, fun, thinking, problem solving, calculators, fractions, and decimals. To sum people these things may not sound very fun, but to me it is. The reason I like math is because there is always either a right answer or wrong answer no maybes or kind ofs. It is all black and white. Also, you use math in everything you do; whether it is go to the grocery store, ride a bike, swim, or build a house. One of my favorite ways to use math is when I am balancing an equation in chemistry class. I love chemistry and math, so I definitely love combining the two subjects together.

Trademarks

Have you ever noticed things that people do over and over again? I see them all the time. They are called trademarks. My best friend's brother always has some type of ball with him. Whether it is a bouncy ball, and football, or a squishy ball he never leaves his house without one. Another trademark I see is with my best friend. She always has coloring crowns in her purse. I don't know why, but she always has them with her. It is really funny, she is a senior in high school and she still carries a bag of Crayola coloring crowns with her where ever she goes. These are just a couple of trademarks that I have noticed. There are many types of trademarks some people you see all the time are always knitting, carrying a coffee mug, or some people always wear the same types of clothes or wear their hair the same every day. Everyone has a trademark, you just have to look for it. Next time you see someone try to pick out their funny trademark.

Ugly Words

There are many different types of words. Some are sweet sounding like sugar, tintinnabulation, and jingle. Some are just weird like guacamole, cantaloupe, and kiwi. Sometimes I just wonder who came up with some of these names. There are some words in the human language that I can't stand at all. Curse words. I don't know who invented them, but I wish that they hadn't. There are so many others words people can use that show their feelings in a much better and more descriptive way. All I hear all day long is bad word this and bad words that, I am so bad word mad. Why can't people be creative with their vocabulary and say aberrant, imprudent, or psychotic, satisfactory, advantageous, or felicitous. Their is many different words that give people a much better description of how someone feels.

Lion King

The Lion King is my all time favorite movie. I love all the songs in it. When I was little all I would do when I was home was watch the Lion King. If I was in the car I always listened to the Lion King sound track. If I wasn't watching it or listening to it in the car I was reading the book. Now that I'm older I understand the meaning more. I loved how Disney showed that you can do whatever you want to do through a little kids movie. He showed that it didn't matter who you were, where you came from, or what you looked like that you could do whatever you put your mind to. The movie shows this when Simba and Nala are singing "I Just Can't Wait to be King". Simba says: I'm going to be a mighty king so enemies beware. Zazoo: Well I've never seen a king or beast with quite so little hair. Simba: Well I'm going to be the main event that no king was before. This line shows Simba's determination to be the king of the jungle even though their are animals that are strongly against him.

Snowdays

Almost every year we get out of school for snow days. I like having snow days, for the most part. I like them because I don't have to go to school, I get to sleep in, and I get to do whatever I want-well as long as it is reasonable, I get to make snowmen, have snowball fights, make snow angels, and drink hot chocolate. But, one thing I don't like about them is having to make it up later. :( This snow day I didn't do a whole lot. I was going to go out side, but it was too cold. Anything that wasn't covered up would have freezed immediately. Instead I stayed inside and played with my new Ipod touch. I t was a very relaxing weekend. i wish we could have snow days more often as long as we don't have to make them up.

Possibilities

Looking ahead 2010 is going to be a busy year. First off is the regional swim meet, next will be the regional and state track meet, then prom and the end of the school year. After that my summer consist of my church's mission trip, the YMCA triathlon, GSP, and cross country camp. Then in the fall I will start my senior year of high school; being busy with college applications, scholarship applications, and wrapping up my high school career. Goodness, that's a lot to do in one year. With all of that going on and I'm sure lots more 2011 will be here sooner than I expect, but for now I hope to enjoy the time being.

2009 Reflection

2009 was a very eventful year. Many memories were made that will never be forgotten; some good and others we wish we could forget. One of the first events of the year was the Ice Storm. I will never forget it. 95% of the town was with out power anywhere from 2 days to 3 weeks. Luckily my house was part of the 5% that didn't lose power. Although it wasn't as fun as some people think. Even though we still had heat and electricity we had to share. My grandparents, my mom's friend's family, and my 2 best friend's family's all stayed at our house for those 2 weeks until we went back to school, then they were still living at our house for a few days after that. It was fun because you always had someone to talk too and play with, but it was also uncomfortable because their were 13 people staying in a 3 bedroom house.
Another event that I won't forget is my church's mission trip to Camp Loucon during spring break. I won't forget this because I helped haul trees, that had been damaged from the ice storm, a week straight and you still couldn't tell that we had made much of a difference. We chose Camp Loucon as our place to work because everyone in my youth group had gone to church camp their at least once, and most of us had gone numerous times, and we new how much Camp Loucon meant to us and we wanted others to be able to have the same experience as us.
2009 will be a year I never forget.
